What are lash extensions?

Lash extensions are semi-permanent synthetic fibers which are applied strand by strand to your natural lashes. They also come in silk and faux mink. Carefully applied one at a time, the art of applying lash extensions requires a steady hand and alot of patience! A specially-formulated, semi-permanent glue is used in the process that will not irritate or damage the natural lash.

How are lash extensions are applied?

A single eyelash extension is applied using precision tweezers. The lash extension is dipped in adhesive, and placed carefully on one of your natural lashes one millimeter above the root. If you opt for volume lashes in a more glamorous, open-eyed look, the process will only differ slightly. Rather than applying just one extension to each lash, a few synthetic lashes are glued together to create a fan first, then from here, the same process is used.

Are lash extensions and lifts bad for your lashes?

Selecting the correct lash extension is important. They should be the right size and weight for your lashes. If the lashes are too long or too heavy for your natural lash, that's when they pull. Or if the lashes are improperly applied, that will cause damage. Proper aftercare as with many other beauty services is important to ensure your natural lashes stay healthy

They should be isolated one fan or extension to one natural lash. That way, when your natural lash sheds, it takes the extension with it. A natural lash only has a lifespan of about 8 weeks. It detaches, and another lash grows in it’s place. Your lash extensions are permanently attached to your lashes, but your natural lashes are not permanently attached to your face. You should see one lash attached to an extension when it sheds.

How do you take care of lash extensions?

The first 24 hours after your extensions are put in is very important. You don’t want to get the areas wet as it can disturb the way the glue sets. After the first 24 hours you want to take care of the lashes, brushing them, rinsing them with water and avoiding any oil based products. To prevent losing your lashes too early, use gentle, oil-free products around the eye area, and take extra care when removing eye makeup. Your lash extensions will last you up to 3 weeks before you will need to return for a refill treatment so it’s best to book that appointment before you leave the salon :)
