Danny worked on and off in the entertainment industry then won an acting scholarship to Hong Kong. Underneath the actor our creative man luckily pursued work in the fashion industry. Initially focusing on editorial styling through a few chance encounters that lead to a career in hair. Well noted as having a natural talent Danny (the dynamo!) completed his 2 year hairdressing course in 5 months and has never looked back! Danny loves short hair cuts and is a master of curly hair.

Coming to Mien only a month after directing the hair and make-up for Serbia's fashion week this intriguing artist has many accolades and is amazing to watch. Dejan says he was destined for more and in pursuit of a better life so he moved to Australia with his partner. Dejan loves Up do’s and Make-Up; he loves seeing the transformation from start to end (he’s amazing). In his own time Dejan maintains a YouTube channel where he creates tutorials on Make-Up. A fabulous artist he is well regarded as someone who can bring out the beauty in anyone. Dejan’s is fab at cutting short hair and an absolute gun with Hair styling and make-up!!

With 14 years of industry experience in Sydney, London, Berlin and now home in Melbourne, Clare has an expansive colour knowledge, education and management skills to boot. Recently certified as a Trainer and Assessor Clare can now deliver specialised training programs to our fabulous up and comers! “I love seeing the juniors get excited about colour. And so much of it happens at the basin so that’s where I start with them”. Manageability and integrity at the forefront of Clare’s consultations, and she believes condition should never be compromised. Clare is even in the process of introducing ‘Tissue Lights’ to Mien, she claims they are perfect for clients wanting to go slightly blonder or wanting to add natural tones back into lightened hair. Ultimately, she loves to see her guests bounce out of the salon after a fresh new do!

Senior Stylist

Brought up by her very passionate, talented and well known hairdresser mum Wani had hair in the blood. Originally starting a University degree in Molecular Biology in South Korea Wani also worked part time in a salon. She soon realised that life on the salon floor helping people look and feel fabulous was much more rewarding than life in a laboratory! Once in Australia she won many industry awards including IHS, HBIA and American Crew. She loves creating hair styles that suit her guests individual needs and her science background helps her to understand how the ingredients in the Aveda hair care work to benefit . Wani is great listener and takes her time to ensure she delivers her absolute best every time. She’s a master at the classic hair cutting and highlighting.

In Australia on a Humanitarian visa our Ukrainian apprentice will happily tell you of his time as an illegal florist in St Petersburg and how his passion for hairdressing was born.

“My clients love the basin chairs and comment that it feels like it’s like being in the ocean, like you’re taking a wave. I want my clients to escape when they are at the fabulous new basin chairs and this is what I’m thinking about when I am massaging them. As a trainee I have a strong vision of what being a great hairdresser is. I want to be able to cut 4 or 5 different forms with a lot of different approaches. I feel like my cutting training at Mien will help me do this. I am always practicing. I also love learning about the Aveda products!”

I’m less of a hairdresser these days and more someone who provides a space for these amazing, artistic people.

It was actually more a calling which I distinctly remember on a lunch break in the back room of one of the most highly awarded hair salons back in the 90s. I was surrounded by these unique, stylish artists who were discussing fashion, hair, how busy they were and I remember observing them, listening to their concerns about their salon, their fashion sense, their ambitions, and the pressures that they felt under by the clients. They were amazingly creative individuals who I felt this weird maternal instinct towards. And although I was one of them I felt that it was my mission to create a safe, inspiring and rewarding space for them.

And literally, that is what my dream was and it is realised at Mien Salon Spa.

After 25 years I truly believe that the people here are the best hairdressers and Beauty Therapist that we can train and find in Melbourne. And even from around the world - it’s when applicants; hairdressers or beauty therapists come to me it’s their artistry, their care and their passion for their craft that I literally feel the most. We only ever hire people (or maybe a better way of saying it ‘go into partnership with’) individuals that we feel have that artistry, that passion for their craft as a central place within their hearts. I’m a true believer that when it’s doing the thing that you love doing you’re never going to work a day in your life!

As mien’s Spa Leader Sally is across every service the Day Spa has to offer. “My real passion is Skin and seeing results. My extensive knowledge on the subject has led me to love skin rejuvenation and laser. DMK is just the best!“

Sally is also often reviewed as an excellent masseur - which is true to form because we didn’t really know she was so well loved for this service. Sally says she loves mien, loves being involved with delivering training and is looking forward to the Spa going from strength to strength.

Elspeth is one of Mien spa’s excellent specialist therapists, someone whom is dermal trained and has a deep understanding of skin. As well as providing rejuvenation and pigmentation solutions with advanced Laser therapies, Elspeth loves incorporating aromatherapy into her treatments.

Working with essential oils and the olfactory senses is a real craft and she finds that certain aromas create a sense of place, environment and seriously contribute to relaxation. Aromatherapy is an important part of the Aveda treatment experience. She loves customising treatments for each specific client and working with the essential oils is an integral part of that.
