The Low-down on the perfect rubdown!
If you've ever looked at our menus and been a bit confused we have put this article together to get you into the idea that body work should be for your ‘body' as well as your car! And just as your car needs maintenance massage is something that your body needs to be done regularly. The massage styles offered at mien are really quite different and until experienced cannot be fully appreciated. We encourage you to try them all as they are all so beneficial.
For right now to take the stress out of finding the right massage here's the breakdown...
Elemental nature massage:
The Technique:
Our Aveda technique incorporates Swedish massage and aromatherapy style massage. Expect various degrees of pressure and a few main circular or gliding strokes. Ef-flowage, kneading, tapping, wringing and brushing. With customised oils aimed to balance your moods, senses and energy there's also a foot scrub. We call these extras the "Aveda rituals". As a variation we also have the Deep Ritual treatment which specifies a firmer massage.
What happens:
It should relax, energize, stimulate circulation and enhance muscle tone. It's also considered therapeutic in reducing muscle tightness. Works primarily on the first layer of muscle and increase local circulation
Good for:
Stress relief, relaxation, soreness and better circulation. Aids in digestion.
Shiatsu:
The Technique:
Using pulsating finger pressure along acupressure points, a therapist can unblock the energy the flows through the body's acupuncture meridians. Also uses kneading, stroking, tapping and stretching.
What happens The amount of pressure depends on the person's needs. It can affect muscular circulatory and lymphatic systems.
Good for:
Stimulates energy to heighten the immune system. A useful ‘pick me up" if run down or recovering from illness.
Remedial or Sports massage:
The Technique:
Looks for trigger pints, or knots in specific muscles, ligaments and tendons. Uses compression strokes which means pressing into the muscle to spread out the fibres. Specific ailments can be treated. Oil is used sparingly as there is less gliding.
What happens
Similar to basic massage but often deeper. In addition to compression, it uses cross-fibre strokes, friction, kneading and deep pressure.
Good for:
Weekend warriors. Also used by elite athletes for pre- and post- vent muscle maintenance. Used beforehand, it can keep joints loose, improve circulation and calm a hyper athlete. Afterwards, it helps eliminate toxins, provide cramp relief and stretches out excessively tight muscles.
The Chair:
The Technique:
This is a quick 15 - 30 minute treatment. The therapist has easy access to the client's back, neck and shoulders.
Good for:
Stressed-out people who site at desks all day. Also good for alleviating neck pain caused by phone-cradling syndrome.
